Experts have already confirmed the presence of industrial gas reserves, which opens up new prospects for the region’s energy sector.

Work on the search for hydrocarbons has a long history. Back in Soviet times, the Sea of Azov was considered a promising area due to its shallow depth and the presence deposits on the neighboring coasts. At that time, research was carried out here, but after the collapse of the Union, its intensity noticeably decreased.

A new stage of research started at the end of 2023. It is conducted by Rosnedra together with researchers from VNIIOkeangeologiya. The basis for resuming the search was a thorough desk processing of extensive archival data collected in the past. In general, in the waters of the Sea of Azov geologists identified 22 promising structures where hydrocarbons can be detected with a high degree of probability.

Specialists are focusing on several key areas. This is the zone off the coast of the Krasnodar Territory near the city of Temryuk, as well as the Paleozoic and Visokosny areas in the eastern and southern parts of the sea. It is in these territories that the main efforts are concentrated.

The main result was the discovery of industrial reserves of natural gas at the end of June. Now the exact volume of the deposits found will have to be assessed by subsoil users, who will determine the economic feasibility and further steps for the development of the deposits. This discovery can provide a significant impetus for the development of the region and strengthening energy security.

The material was prepared with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Decade of Science and Technology.

Source: geonews.ru

Photo: paluba.media

Active activities have resumed in the Sea of Azov search oil and gas.
