The Canadian company Central European Petroleum (CEP) announced the opening of the largest in Poland deposits<\/a> oil and gas. Resources were found during drilling of the Wolin East-1 well on the Baltic Sea shelf. This event can significantly enhance the country’s energy security.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

The Wolin East-1 well is located 6 km from the city of \u015awinouj\u015bcie and 50 km from Szczecin. The drilling depth was 3.5 thousand meters, and research confirmed the presence of 22 million tons of oil and 5 billion m\u00b3 of gas. According to preliminary estimates, the general stocks<\/a> The area could reach 27 billion m\u00b3 of gas and 22 million tons of oil.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

This is the first offshore exploration well in Poland in several decades. The success of the project opens up new prospects for the region, where geological exploration<\/a> has not been carried out for more than 30 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

CEP head Rolf Skaar noted that the field is comparable in size to the largest in Poland – Barnowko-Mostno-Buszewo (BMB). Its development will allow increasing daily oil production by 2-3 times, and gas production by 20%.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Now Poland imports 95% of oil, and its own resources cover only 16-18 thousand barrels per day. The new field will reduce dependence on foreign supplies and reduce the cost of raw materials compared to Norwegian counterparts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

CEP is looking for partners to start production and is ready to consider options for cooperation, including the sale of 100% shares. About 10 companies have already shown interest in the project.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

The infrastructure for transporting resources already exists: oil can be delivered to Gdansk or Kamen Pomorski, and gas can be fed into the existing gas transportation system or processed into LNG.<\/p>\n\n\n

The discovery of the Wolin deposit is an important step for the Polish energy sector. It will not only reduce imports, but also create new jobs. Production will begin after attracting partners, and the first results are expected in the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n
