Unique compositions inspired by the sounds of oil fields are already available on popular streaming platforms.

Alexander Butorin, a scientist and teacher at Tomsk Polytechnic University, has developed a program that converts data geological researchth into music. As a basis, he took records of seismic waves from the Yety-Purovskoye field in Yamal, obtained at a depth of 3 kilometers.

“Initially, this was an educational project for students,” Butorin explained. – I wanted to show how neural networks can help in the analysis of geophysical data. But in the process I discovered that these sounds can be turned into full-fledged musical compositions.”

The album “Energy of the Subsoil” includes seven tracks in lounge and ambient style. Among them are “Geoacoustics”, “Seismophony” and “Magnetic Rhythm”. The total playing time is just over an hour, which makes the music ideal for meditation or relaxation.

The peculiarity of the project is the combination of scientific data and a creative approach. In the additional track you can hear the “raw” sounds of oil, clay and sandstone without processing.

The album is available on Yandex.Music, VKontakte and other streaming services. According to the author, music helps listeners feel connected to nature and recharged with the energy of the earth.

Soon, geological research data will also be visually embodied. At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Gazprom Neft will present the multimedia project Terrabyte, which will allow viewers to go on a virtual journey to bosom Earth.

This experiment is a prime example of how science and art can complement each other, opening up new possibilities for creativity and education.

The material was prepared with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Decade of Science and Technology

Source: neftegaz.ru

Gazprom Neft geophysicist Alexander Butorin presented an unusual music album created based on recordings of seismic waves.
