The technology developed by Gazprom and its partners has already proven its effectiveness in fields in the Sea of Okhotsk.

The State Reserves Committee approved the “Methodological recommendations for conducting 4D seismic studies using seabed systems in offshore fields of the Russian Federation.” The document was prepared by Gazprom, Gazprom Nedra, Gazprom VNIIGAZ, the Marine Arctic Geological Exploration Expedition and the Oil and Gas Research Center of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov.

Previously, observation wells were used to monitor oil and gas fields. They helped track changes in formations where the boundaries between oil, gas and water shifted over time. However, this method required regular drilling of new wells every 5-7 years, which was expensive and labor-intensive.

The new technique offers a more cost-effective solution. Instead of drilling wells, it is proposed to conduct seismic surveys using bottom stations located on the seabed. By comparing data obtained in different years, specialists can evaluate production efficiency and, if necessary, adjust field development.

The technology has already been successfully tested at Gazprom’s offshore fields in the Sea of Okhotsk. It allows you to record different types of waves, and modern software ensures accurate processing and interpretation of the data.

According to Gazprom Nedra General Director Alexey Ovechkin, the new methodology is an important step in the development of the oil and gas industry. It not only extends the period of stable production, but also prevents water flooding of wells, increasing oil and gas recovery from formations. The technology is recommended for all subsoil users operating on the Russian shelf.

Source: neftegaz.ru

Photo: nedra.gazprom.ru

The State Commission for Mineral Reserves (GKZ) has approved an innovative 4D seismic survey technique for offshore fields.
