Change No. 2 to SP 25.13330.2020 will come into force in January 2025, focusing on innovative technologies for the design of buildings on permafrost soils.

The new standards, known as SNiP 2.02.04-88, have been developed taking into account the latest scientific advances. They are based on six studies conducted from 2022 to 2023 and are aimed at improving construction in the difficult climate conditions of the Arctic zone.

Minister of Construction Irek Faizullin emphasized that these changes are an important step in the strategic development of the region.

“We aim to create comfortable living conditions using the most advanced technologies, such as fiberglass piles,”

– he said

The Russian President also supported the idea of comprehensive modernization, including residential, cultural and road facilities, which will ensure the sustainable development of Arctic cities.

The updated rules pay special attention to technical details: anti-corrosion protection, the use of fiberglass, taking into account surface roughness and calculating the tangential forces of frost heaving. The document also regulates the use of cement-sand mortars when filling piles and details the standards for design on alluvial soils.

Andrey Kopytin, director of the FAU “FCS”, noted the importance of new standards in the context of climate change and man-made impacts.

“These standards will help build more reliable and durable structures on permafrost soils,”

– he said

From January 2025, the new rules will come into force, which will be a significant step towards improving the quality and safety of construction in the harsh conditions of the Arctic.

Source: Ministry of Construction of Russia

Rosstandart has approved new construction standards for the Arctic.
