Oleg Kazanov, head of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use (Rosnedra), announced that state authorities have approved reserves for more than 90 newly discovered mineral deposits during the first months of 2026.

Most of the new discoveries involve placer gold deposits. At the same time, mining companies are actively expanding reserves at existing operations through additional exploration programs. As a result, mature mining assets are gaining new life thanks to improved exploration techniques and modern geological technologies.

Among the most significant discoveries highlighted by Kazanov is the Televeem deposit in Chukotka. Geologists have confirmed resources containing approximately 30 tonnes of gold and 392 tonnes of silver. Another major success is the Gora Yuzhnaya deposit on the Kola Peninsula. Located near the Kovdor Mining and Processing Plant, the deposit contains iron-phosphorus ores, apatite, and zirconium. Its proximity to existing mining infrastructure could significantly simplify future development and reduce capital requirements.

Kazanov also identified the regions with the greatest potential for future discoveries. Chukotka, the Magadan Region, the Amur Region, and Yakutia remain the most promising territories for expanding Russia’s mineral resource base over the coming years.

Active exploration provides a dual benefit for the country. First, each newly confirmed reserve strengthens Russia’s position in global commodity markets. Second, new projects stimulate regional economic development, creating opportunities that range from early-stage exploration work to the construction of mining and processing facilities and the creation of long-term jobs.

The pace of discoveries is notable. More than 90 new deposits approved within less than a year represent a significant addition to the country’s resource base and provide a foundation for the long-term development of Russia’s Far Eastern and northern regions.

Source: RIA Novosti

Image: @expoprom

Russia’s mineral exploration sector continues to accelerate.
