Russia has moved a step closer to reviving its domestic tin industry. Mining holding Seligdar has completed exploration drilling at the Pyrkakay Stockworks project, one of the largest tin deposits not only in Russia but also globally. <\/p>\n\n

The announcement was made by the company\u2019s president, Alexander Khrushch. According to current estimates, the deposit contains<\/a> 243,000 tonnes of tin in approved reserves. The project is located in the Chaunsky District of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, just 86 kilometers from the town of Pevek. Its proximity to Pevek, a key hub along the Northern Sea Route, is expected to significantly simplify future logistics and export operations. <\/p>\n\n

The project also benefits from existing infrastructure. A year-round road already provides access to the site, while a power transmission line connected to the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant runs only 15 kilometers away. Access to an established energy network is expected to reduce development and operating costs for the future mining operation. <\/p>\n\n

During the exploration campaign<\/a>, specialists drilled numerous exploration holes and collected large-scale metallurgical samples. The ore underwent comprehensive testing, including the evaluation of various processing and beneficiation methods. These studies enabled engineers to identify the most efficient processing flowsheet for the deposit. <\/p>\n\n

The project has now entered the stage of preparing technical regulations and economic feasibility studies. Preliminary estimates suggest that the future mining and processing plant could handle up to 6 million tonnes of ore annually. The planned open-pit operation is expected to have a mine life of approximately 18 years. <\/p>\n\n

The Pyrkakay Stockworks project has the potential to become Russia\u2019s leading source of tin. In addition to strengthening the country\u2019s mineral resource base, the development could further enhance the economic importance of Arctic regions and support long-term industrial growth in the Russian Far North. <\/p>\n\n
