The combined company will produce approximately 1.1 million ounces of gold annually from six operating mines across North America, ranking behind only Agnico Eagle. As new development projects come online, annual production is expected to increase by nearly 70%.

The transaction is structured as an all-share merger. Existing Equinox Gold shareholders will own approximately 67% of the combined company, while Orla Mining shareholders will receive one Equinox share for each Orla share they currently hold. Independent proxy advisory firms supported the transaction, citing greater asset diversification, enhanced strategic flexibility, and stronger long-term production growth.

Jason Simpson, President and CEO of Orla Mining, described the merger as a transformational expansion of the company’s North American portfolio, positioning the combined business among the industry’s leading gold producers with one of the strongest growth profiles in the sector. Darren Hall, President and CEO of Equinox Gold, said the new company will immediately join the ranks of major producers exceeding 1.1 million ounces of annual gold production.

The most significant advantage, however, lies beyond current operations. As the combined company’s development pipeline advances, annual gold production is projected to increase to approximately 1.9 million ounces. Such a growth trajectory, concentrated in politically stable mining jurisdictions, is considered uncommon in today’s gold industry.

The merger reflects the broader consolidation trend sweeping the global gold mining sector. With gold prices remaining near record highs, producers are seeking greater scale, lower operating risk, and stronger balance sheets. The combination of Equinox Gold and Orla Mining represents another major step in that industry-wide trend.

Canada’s gold sector has gained a new heavyweight. With six producing mines, a robust pipeline of growth projects, and the potential to approach 2 million ounces of annual production, the merged company is well positioned to reshape the competitive landscape of North American gold mining.

Source: MINING.COM

Image: Equinox Gold

Shareholders of Equinox Gold and Orla Mining have approved an $18.5 billion merger that will create Canada’s second-largest gold producer.
