<\/a><\/figure>\n\nThis geophysics of yours does not work. It is all nonsense!\n\nI heard this so often from people I needed to discuss a work plan with or show the results of a geophysical survey to. I could not understand it: how can someone dismiss an entire science, with its theory, experiments, and accumulated practical experience?\n\nIs it really just some joke that can be waved away so easily?\n\n

Only recently did I understand why this happens: behind it is usually a simple lack of awareness about the subject. It is easier to say \u201cit does not work, it is nonsense\u201d than to admit: yes, I do not have enough knowledge, time, or energy to study the question.<\/p>

That is why I started a blog: to help geologists and geophysicists work together, and to explain how geophysics can be used effectively as a practical tool.<\/p>

Over the past year, I have worked with companies and written articles for them about exploration, mining, engineering surveys, and IT. I immersed myself in their businesses and learned more about how clients and contractors, or managers and specialists, interact. Again, I saw a painfully familiar picture.<\/p>\n\nColleagues and partners who should be working together often see one another as idle or irresponsible.\n\n

I saw this myself at a session of an engineering survey conference devoted to the interaction between designers and surveyors: the participants exchanged accusations, but offered almost no solutions. \u201cYou just draw,\u201d \u201cYou cannot even prepare a proper technical assignment,\u201d \u201cAnd you… and you… and you…\u201d<\/p>

This is how the idea for GeoConversation. Salt of the Earth appeared: a place where we improve communication between specialists through knowledge and by getting inside the realities of colleagues\u2019 and partners\u2019 work.<\/p>\n\nOf course, after reading one article, or even a series of articles about RC drilling or mineral resource estimation under JORC standards, you will not become an expert in that field. But you do not need to. It is enough to understand how your colleagues work, what a contractor needs to do the job well, and whether a method has limitations and what those limitations are.\n\n

I am sure another welcome bonus will be a community of strong professionals, something our industry definitely lacks. We need to step beyond our offices, disciplines, and job hierarchies: in the comments, a CEO and a junior specialist can easily exchange messages.
