The largest fleet of autonomous mining dump trucks has been launched at a coal mine in China. The project was developed jointly by Huawei Technologies, XCMG and Beijing University of Science and Technology. The unique technology has already proven its effectiveness: 100 unmanned trucks operate without drivers, increasing productivity career.
All dump trucks are connected to a single digital platform using 5G-A communications, artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The machines independently navigate complex terrain thanks to accurate maps, and automatic battery replacement allows them to work without stopping. This solution has already increased the efficiency of logistics at the field by 20%.
Now this is the world’s largest project with autonomous mining equipment. In the next three years, the number of unmanned dump trucks here will grow to 300. In addition, China plans to introduce 5 thousand such machines in the coal industry by the end of the year, and by 2025 their number could reach 10 thousand.
The introduction of unmanned dump trucks not only speeds up production, but also makes it safer. China is actively developing autonomous technologies, and this project is an important step in digitalization mining industry. In the future, similar solutions may appear in other countries.
