Rosneft has announced a major milestone for its Arctic flagship project, Vostok Oil. The first oil has been produced at the Peschany block of the Payakha field, marking the project’s transition from the construction phase to the start of operational production. At the same time, preparations are underway to commission the project’s main oil pipeline later this year.
According to the company’s first-quarter report, more than 700 kilometers of pipeline infrastructure have already been welded and laid. Of this total, 422 kilometers consist of a twin-pipe section. Specialists are currently carrying out cleaning, calibration, and testing procedures to ensure the reliability and safe operation of the system.
Development of the project’s marine infrastructure is also progressing rapidly. At the Sever Bay port, two cargo berths and a berth for port service vessels are already ready to receive ships. Construction of the first oil-loading terminal is nearly complete, while installation and equipment commissioning continue at the second terminal.
Vostok Oil is Rosneft’s flagship Arctic development project, encompassing 52 license areas and 13 oil and gas fields across northern Krasnoyarsk Krai and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The project includes both producing assets from the Vankor cluster and new developments, including the Payakha field. The achievement of first oil at the Peschany block confirms the project’s readiness for large-scale production and future exports via the Northern Sea Route.
Vostok Oil is now entering a new stage of development, shifting from infrastructure construction to actual hydrocarbon production. The milestone represents an important step in strengthening Russia’s position in the Arctic and advancing the development of the Northern Sea transport corridor.
