The Yakutugol company (part of the Mechel group) has implemented a georadar for round-the-clock monitoring of the state of the mountain range at the Neryungrinsky open-pit mine. The new equipment will help prevent collapses and improve the safety of miners.
The georadar scans the dumps and sides of the quarry at a distance of up to 5 km, recording the slightest deformation of the rock. Special software analyzes the data and displays it in the form of graphs and diagrams showing the displacement of the rock mass.
Information is transmitted in real time to the dispatch service. The system duplicates data through a backup communication channel, and also sends SMS and email alerts when a threat is detected. This allows you to quickly evacuate personnel before an emergency occurs.
According to the managing director of Yakutugol O. Mikhailov, the introduction of ground penetrating radar is part of an integrated approach to security. The technology minimizes the presence of people in hazardous areas, reducing production risks.
The new monitoring system is another step by Yakutugol towards creating safe working conditions. GPR not only prevents accidents, but also helps predict changes in the mountain range, saving the lives of workers.
