Russian polymer for enhanced oil recovery: Gazprom Neft has confirmed its effectiveness

Gazprom Neft successfully tested a new Russian polymer for hydraulic fracturing (hydraulic fracturing). The technology increases the efficiency of oil production, reducing dependence on foreign materials.

Gazprom Neft tested hydraulic fracturing technology using a fluid based on domestic polyacrylamide. This synthetic polymer became the first high-quality alternative to foreign analogues used in oil production.

Polyacrylamide is a polymer that is widely used in petrochemicals. It effectively reduces the filtration of drilling fluids and improves the stability of fractures created during hydraulic fracturing. The company’s specialists, together with partners, have developed an optimal polymer composition, which has been successfully tested at the Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz field in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Traditionally, fluids based on guar, a plant component imported from India and Pakistan, are used for hydraulic fracturing. However, Russian polyacrylamide has shown higher efficiency, especially when working with low-permeable formations. The new component allows you to create a predictable system of fractures, increase their length and, as a result, increase the coverage of the reservoir and the flow of oil.

Sergei Doctor, head of the production department at Gazprom Neft, noted that the company is actively introducing innovative technologies to maintain and increase production. “We have created a sought-after Russian technology that reduces dependence on imports and confirms its effectiveness in practice,” he emphasized.

Igor Petrov, General Director of Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz, added that successful testing of the polymer opens up new opportunities for the development of complex fields. “The introduction of domestic developments increases the sustainability of our production processes,” he said.

Gazprom Neft continues to develop enhanced oil recovery technologies, which is especially important for working in mature fields and developing hard-to-recover reserves. The use of Russian polyacrylamide is an important step in strengthening the independence of the domestic oil and gas industry.
