A ceremony was held in Khanty-Mansiysk in honor of the production of the 13 billionth ton of oil in Ugra. Oil workers in the region filled a commemorative barrel with black gold.

On January 24, 2025, representatives of the largest oil companies in Ugra gathered in Khanty-Mansiysk to celebrate an epoch-making achievement – the production of 13 billion tons of oil. The event was attended by industry veterans, current specialists and young people. The key event was the filling of a symbolic barrel with oil collected from the fields of the region.

Governor of KhMAO-Yugra Roman Kukharuk emphasized the significance of the event: “This ton is the result of the hard work of geologists, drillers and oil workers. It symbolizes the contribution of several generations of specialists to the development of oil production. The commemorative barrel will be a symbol of their dedicated work.”

The Gazpromneft-Khantos company made its contribution by delivering oil from one of the most promising fields in the region – named after A. Zhagrin. Young specialists of the company also took part in the ceremony, demonstrating the continuity of generations.

Two employees of Gazpromneft-Khantos were especially noted at the event. The head of the formation pressure support department, Pavel Eliseev, and compressor operator Nikolai Vodolazhsky received gratitude from the governor for their professionalism.

As part of the celebration, a meeting of industry veterans and young professionals was held under the slogan “Time has chosen us.” Participants in the round table, moderated by journalist Sergei Brilev, discussed the past, present and future of the oil industry. Veterans shared memories of the first steps of subsoil development, and young people talked about modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotization.

Head of the production and technical department of Gazpromneft-Khantos, Alexey Ovcharov, noted: “Now is the time of hard-to-recover oil. We are actively introducing digital technologies to work effectively in new conditions. Today’s oil worker is an engineer, IT specialist and economist rolled into one.”

Yugra remains the leader in oil production in Russia. More than 40 companies operate on its territory and 484 deposits are located. Almost half of all Russian oil is produced here. The first billionth ton was extracted in 1978, and the 12 billionth in 2020. Now Ugra has taken another step in its history.

The production of the 13 billionth ton of oil became a landmark event not only for Ugra, but for the whole of Russia. This achievement confirms the region’s leading role in the oil industry and shows that the future of oil production depends on modern technologies and new generations of specialists.
