In the coming days, a strong eruption of the Bezymianny volcano may occur in Kamchatka. This was reported by specialists from the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Group of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to scientists, the volcano is showing all the signs of preparing for a powerful eruption. In recent days, an increase in effusive activity has been recorded, accompanied by intense emissions of gas and steam. Satellite monitoring recorded a significant thermal anomaly, indicating an increase in temperature inside the crater.
“Thermal data shows a sharp contrast between background values and the temperature of the volcano, indicating an imminent explosive eruption. According to our calculations, it could happen within the next three days,” experts said.
During an eruption, ash emissions to a height of 10–15 kilometers are possible. This could pose a threat to aviation and the environment. Bezymianny Volcano is 2,882 meters above sea level and its activity can affect weather conditions in the region.
Experts continue to monitor the situation and recommend local residents and tourists to exercise caution. Developments will be reported promptly.
