In 2025, Rosnedra will hold auctions to distribute rights to develop eight areas with hydrocarbons and 35 areas with solid minerals in the Arctic. Large deposits will not participate in the auction.
The head of Rosnedra Oleg Kazanov said that the auctions will be held as part of the strategy for the development of the Russian Arctic zone. We are talking about areas without proven reserves – future subsoil users will study them.
This approach makes it possible to identify new deposits through geological exploration work carried out by the winning companies. At the same time, the state will receive additional income from one-time payments for the right to use subsoil.
Casanov clarified that the auctions will not affect large deposits. The information was announced at the International Arctic Forum, which ended on March 26. New auctions of Rosnedra are aimed at attracting investment in the Arctic and expanding the country’s mineral resource base. Decisions on areas will be made based on the results of geological exploration, which reduces risks for subsoil users.
