Scientists have developed a unique material that not only effectively destroys organic pollutants, but also collects energy from the environment.
A new hybrid material based on polyvinylidene fluoride and bismuth ferrite nanoparticles is capable of decomposing harmful substances under the influence of light and ultrasound, as well as generating electricity under mechanical action and in a magnetic field.
During the experiments, the material demonstrated impressive results:
– 97% effective in decomposing methylene blue (a common dye) under ultraviolet light.
– 83% efficiency when treated with ultrasound.
Scientists have found that hydroxyl radicals, which are formed under the influence of light and sound waves, play a key role in the destruction of pollutants.
The material not only purifies water, but also accumulates energy:
– When compressed and ultrasonic treated, its stress increases by 1.9 times compared to a conventional polymer.
– It is capable of detecting even weak electromagnetic fields, for example, from household appliances.
The development opens up new opportunities for:
– Wastewater treatment.
– Creation of autonomous sensors.
– Development of energy efficient devices.
“Our material combines two important functions – catalytic and energy. In the future, this could lead to the creation of a new generation of environmentally friendly technologies,” said study leader Farid Orujov.
Job completed with the support of the Russian Science Foundation with the participation of scientists from Dagestan State University, St. Petersburg State University and other scientific centers.
The hybrid material makes a double breakthrough in water purification and alternative energy, offering an environmentally friendly solution for the future.
