Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) and MegaFon announced a joint project to create a digital coal warehouse. This solution will optimize the quality control of raw materials for coke production.
The new system will use precision positioning technology, which will help reduce coal charge consumption by 25%. A digital twin of the warehouse will provide real-time data on the movement and characteristics of coal, and will also allow you to monitor the operation of equipment: conveyors, silos and crushing plants.
MMK General Director Pavel Shilyaev noted that this approach has already proven its effectiveness in other areas of production. “Digitalization reduces the impact human factor and improves product quality,” he emphasized.
- 2025: implementation of a coal concentrate accounting system and integration with current processes.
- Early 2026: launch of the first stage of the digital warehouse.
In addition, MMK will expand the coverage area of the corporate Private LTE network, which will prepare the company for the transition to 5G technologies. This will improve communications at key production sites, including sinter plant No. 5.
MegaFon CEO Khachatur Pombukhchan added that cooperation with MMK demonstrates the real benefits of digitalization for industry.
The project will be a new step in increasing the efficiency of metallurgical production.
The material was prepared with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Decade of Science and Technology
