In September 2025, Arkhangelsk will become a center of attraction for everyone who is passionate about geology. The city will host the II International Karpinsky Festival “GEOLFEST 2025”. The event is organized by the regional government and the All-Russian Research Geological Institute.
Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region Igor Muraev called holding the festival in the region strategically important. He emphasized that the region is a storehouse of mineral resources with more than 25 explored types of minerals. Active cooperation with the Karpinsky Institute opens up opportunities for new discoveries in the Arctic, including the search for gold, oil and diamonds. The festival will become a bridge between science, industry and society.
The event will bring together students, schoolchildren, leading scientists and the country’s largest subsoil users on one site. According to the regional Minister of Natural Resources Anna Sheveleva, one of the main tasks is educational. The festival will show the younger generation how dynamic and technological modern geology is, as well as how important it is to carefully develop the fragile ecosystem of the Arctic.
Particular attention will be paid to a new perspective on science. The Karpinsky Institute will present geology as the basis of art and culture. General Director of the Institute Pavel Khimchenko revealed the concept of the GeoAvangard direction. He explained that for centuries geology has provided artists with paint and sculptors with material. This direction will show the importance of geological aspects in the understanding of art, linking color, space, time and form.
Festival guests will be able to attend interactive master classes, educational lectures, geological quizzes and exhibitions. Excursions are organized for professionals diamond mining enterprises. The program also includes field cooking and songs around the fire. Delegations from friendly countries including Cuba, Ethiopia and Mozambique are expected.
“GEOLFEST 2025” emphasizes the growing role of the Arkhangelsk region as a center of Arctic geology and a point of attraction for the international scientific community. This is a unique event for everyone who wants to learn about the riches of the subsoil and their significance for culture and the future.
