Australia’s Critical Resources has signed an exclusivity agreement to acquire 90% of the Gadu Manda gold project in Suriname. The roughly 29-square-kilometer property is located in the Brokopondo district, just four kilometers from the pits of Zijin Mining’s operating Rosebel mine. For Critical Resources, this could become its third gold project in the country.
The terms of the deal include a payment of $200,000 over two years, of which $10,000 is for exclusivity. The seller will also receive 2.5 million Critical Resources shares. The company commits to carry out exploration work costing at least $200,000.
Completion of the deal depends on legal due diligence, approval from Suriname’s authorities, and the fulfillment of other conditions. Critical Resources retains the right to walk away from the acquisition.
The property holds an exploration permit issued in May 2025 for a term of three years. Gadu Manda lies within the Paleoproterozoic greenstone belt of the Guiana Shield. Small-scale gold mining was previously carried out in the northern part of the area, as evidenced by surviving workings and trenches.
The land was formerly part of Rosebel Gold Mines’ license portfolio. Critical Resources plans to obtain historical exploration data, inspect the old workings, and conduct sampling to identify prospective areas. The company has not yet published its own exploration results or mineral resource and reserve estimates for Gadu Manda.
In September 2026, Critical Resources signed similar agreements for the Gonini project, covering about 164 square kilometers, and the Greenstars project, covering about 35 square kilometers. If all three deals are completed, the company will hold 90% interests in projects with a combined area of roughly 228 square kilometers. Unlike Gadu Manda, Gonini and Greenstars already have mining development permits.
The company is currently conducting comprehensive due diligence on the projects in Suriname and structural-geological mapping. The timing of exploration drilling and possible production volumes at Gadu Manda have not yet been determined.
Gadu Manda strengthens Critical Resources’ position in Suriname and brings the company closer to building a cluster of gold assets next to an operating mine. However, until reserves are confirmed and drilling begins, the project remains a bet on geological potential.
