Penza State University has developed gas sensors with improved sensitivity and speed. The technology allows sensors to be adapted for industry and home use, ensuring safety and efficiency.

PSU scientists presented innovative gas sensors that combine high sensitivity and response speed. The development is based on a unique structure of metal oxide material, where small particles increase accuracy, and large particles accelerate response.

Experts used two methods: combining sols with different maturation times and introducing modifiers. This makes it possible to create materials with specified properties – for example, for detecting methane in mines or monitoring air in residential premises.

Advantages of the technology:

– Low production cost

– Possibility of customization for specific tasks

– Quick detection of hazardous gas leaks

As project manager Alexey Karmanov noted, the new development solves problems that have remained unresolved in the field of sensor technologies for a long time.

The research was supported by a grant from the Russian Science Foundation. The introduction of such sensors will increase safety in production, housing and communal services and other areas.
