In 2024, Norilsk Nickel allocated 374 billion rubles for environmental and social projects. This amount accounts for almost a third of the company’s total revenue. Fixed funds were invested in reducing harmful emissions, improving working conditions and developing the regions of presence.

Last year was a record year for industrial safety. The number of workplace fatalities dropped to three and the injury rate reached 0.64, in line with global mining industry standards.

In addition, the company has modernized social infrastructure: major renovations have been completed in 187 facilities, including canteens, medical posts and dormitories. The improvements affected 11,800 employees.

Ecology has become one of the key areas of investment. Thanks to the Sulfur Program, emissions of pollutants were reduced by 23.5%. Large-scale cleanup continued in Norilsk: 406 unsafe buildings were dismantled, more than 1.1 million tons of waste and 83.5 thousand tons of scrap metal were removed. 4.8 million m² of territory was also cleared.

To continuously monitor air quality, the company has implemented an environmental monitoring system with a network of observation stations.

The board of directors of Norilsk Nickel maintains a balance: 46% of its members are independent directors, and the share women is 31%. This approach allows different points of view to be taken into account when making decisions.

“For us, sustainable development is not just an initiative, but the basis of a long-term strategy,” said Stanislav Seleznev, vice president for industrial safety, labor protection and environment.

The company’s investment in 2024 reaffirms its commitment to environmental responsibility and employee care. These measures not only improve the quality of life in the regions, but also strengthen Norilsk Nickel’s position as a leader in the industry.
