Experts from the International Energy Agency expect a revival in the global natural gas market. The main factor will be an increase in volumes liquefied gas, which will improve the balance of supply and demand.

Analysts from the International Energy Agency presented a fresh forecast for the development of the gas market. According to their estimates, in 2025 the increase in global gas consumption was less than 1%. The main reasons for the low pace were the high cost of fuel at the beginning of the year, as well as a reduction in industrial production in a number of countries, primarily in Asia.

The turning point came in the second half of 2025, when new gas liquefaction terminals began to actively operate. Over the year, global LNG supplies rose by almost 7%, with much of this increase coming from projects in North America. This reduced price pressure in key regionssuch as Europe and Asia.

Investments in the industry remain significant. Just last year, a decision was made to build facilities capable of producing more than 90 billion cubic meters of liquefied gas annually. The leader here is the United States, which accounts for over 80 billion cubic meters of new capacity. This strengthens the country’s position as the largest exporter of LNG.

It is expected that this year the growth in liquefied gas supply will exceed 7%, reaching its maximum values over the past seven years. The additional 40 billion cubic meters will mainly be provided by North American producers. The availability of fuel, in turn, stimulates consumption. Global gas demand is projected to increase by almost 2% in 2026. The main growth will come from the economies of China and developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Increasing LNG volumes creates conditions for stabilization world gas market. However, as the IEA emphasizes, the influence of unpredictable factors remains, including political tensions and climate anomalies, which requires countries to pay close attention to issues of ensuring energy stability.
