RUSAL launched a new control system using artificial intelligence at the Bogoslovsky aluminum smelter. The technology allows you to automatically monitor the quality of the cake on the conveyor, reducing dependence on manual labor and increasing production efficiency.

An online monitoring system based on artificial intelligence began operating at the Bogoslovsky aluminum smelter. The development uses machine vision to analyze the particle size distribution of the cake as it moves along the conveyor. The system evaluates the size of the granules, their distribution among fractions and provides operators with recommendations for adjusting the process.

Previously, this work was done manually: plant employees carried out sampling every shift. The new digital complex not only reduces the amount of manual labor, but also helps to identify defects at an early stage. This allows you to quickly fix problems and improve the quality of finished products.

The technology has already proven its effectiveness and will be implemented at all enterprises of RUSAL’s Alumina Division. This is not the company’s first decision related to artificial intelligence. In 2023, RUSAL received the “Artificial Intelligence Leaders” award for its electrolysis shop monitoring system, which is also based on computer vision.

By 2027, similar systems are planned to be launched at factories in Krasnoyarsk, Bratsk, Novokuznetsk, Irkutsk and Volgograd. According to experts, by 2030 the use of artificial intelligence in the Russian economy will bring an effect of more than 10 trillion rubles.

The introduction of artificial intelligence in production is an important step to improve product quality and reduce costs. RUSAL continues to develop digital technologies, which makes it a leader in the industry.
