Scientists from Novosibirsk have developed unique diamond simulators for testing equipment at mining and processing plants (GOKs). The production of simulators is organized on the basis of the Design and Technological Institute of Scientific Instrument Making of the SB RAS by order of the ALROSA company.

Specialists from the Design and Technological Institute of Scientific Instrumentation of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk have created diamond simulators that are used to test the operation of X-ray luminescent separators. These devices are used in mining and processing plants to separate natural diamonds from mined ore.

The simulators are spheres made of impact-resistant polymer, which has a contrasting color against the background of kimberlite ore. The polymer has X-ray optical properties identical to those of natural diamond, including luminescence. In addition, the density of the simulators matches the density of diamond, which makes them as close as possible to real conditions.

Each simulator is equipped with a small magnet that creates an external magnetic field. This makes it possible to automatically separate simulants from natural diamonds during the ore sorting process.

In the first half of 2025, the institute plans to produce a batch of 10 thousand simulators for mining and processing plants of the ALROSA company. This will improve the accuracy and reliability of equipment used for diamond mining.

The development of Novosibirsk scientists is of great importance for the diamond mining industry. Diamond simulators will help improve sorting processes and increase the efficiency of mining and processing plants.
