A new research complex will open on the territory of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and will become a point of attraction for engineering and geological projects throughout the north of Russia. The project is being implemented by the Arktika workshop, which recently received the status of an official resident of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, which allows the use of various support measures and benefits at the federal level. About 60 million rubles will be allocated to create the laboratory.
It is expected that the future platform with an area of over a thousand square meters will be involved at every stage – from initial soil analyzes to the full cycle of engineering and environmental surveys. The laboratory will equip the territory with modern equipment for complex testing: specialists will be able to conduct compression and triaxial tests, as well as evaluate key physical and mechanical parameters of frozen rocks taking into account the changing climate.
The head of the architectural and planning workshop, Maxim Perelekhov, believes that the emergence of the center is a timely response to the new challenges of modernization and climate change in the Arctic. Traditional technologies are often ineffective for construction on complex, unstable soils, which means fresh solutions and deeper research are needed.
Thanks to the new status, the company can count on tax preferences and a simplified set of administrative procedures, which speeds up the implementation of the project and makes it economically profitable. These steps will help launch the laboratory as early as 2029 and provide the region with modern technologies for construction in permafrost areas.
In turn, representatives of the Far East Development Corporation and Arctic note that the development of infrastructure in the Arctic regions is gaining momentum: in the Arctic zone alone, more than 970 investment projects are already being implemented with a total investment volume of more than 220 billion rubles and the creation of over 12 thousand jobs.
The opening of the laboratory will not only increase the scientific and technical potential of Yamal, but will also strengthen the environmental and industrial sustainability of the region. The project is designed to improve construction safety and make a major contribution to the development of modern engineering in the Russian north.
The material was prepared with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Decade of Science and Technology.
