Large-scale projects have started in Buryatia geological exploration work. They take place as part of the second stage of the federal program “Geology: Revival of a Legend.” The main goal is to assess the potential of gold and uranium deposits in the region.
As the Head of the Republic Alexey Tsydenov emphasizes, the program is comprehensive. In parallel with gold and uranium, specialists will study other strategically important minerals. These include diamonds, coal, graphite and fluorspar.
In total, from 2025 to 2027, it is planned to study 45 promising objects. The result of this work will be the transfer of the most significant reserves to the state balance. This will open up new opportunities for industrial development of the region.
Particular attention will be paid to rare earth metals. The authorities of Buryatia showed interest in them even at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The Urik lithium deposit is considered promising, although difficult to access. field. Its development is currently hampered by remoteness and lack of infrastructure.
Geological exploration activity in Buryatia is part of a broader program. In 2025, research will cover 29 promising territories in Siberia and the Far East. Work is planned in Yakutia, Trans-Baikal and Krasnoyarsk territories, Chukotka and the Magadan region.
These surveys are aimed at strengthening the country’s mineral resource base. A comprehensive study of the subsoil will make it possible to more accurately assess the resource potential of strategically important regions of Russia.
The material was prepared with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Decade of Science and Technology.
