Mining Is the Cheapest Way to Invest in the AI Boom, Says Azuria Capital Founder

As investors continue pouring money into major technology companies, Otavio Costa, founder of Azuria Capital, is advocating a different way to profit from the artificial intelligence boom. He argues that investing in mining companies provides much cheaper exposure to the AI growth story than buying shares of technology firms themselves. In his view, markets are only beginning to recognize the critical role that mines play in the digital economy.

Speaking on the Top of Mine podcast, Costa described a shift in sentiment among institutional investors. Until recently, major funds largely ignored the mining sector. Now, they increasingly view it as strategically important and worthy of greater investment. According to Costa, the market capitalization of mining companies remains tiny relative to global equities, creating a significant imbalance that could eventually be corrected.

Costa is particularly bullish on junior miners and mid-tier producers. These companies control high-quality exploration assets that could become acquisition targets in the coming years and eventually develop into new mines. He believes passive investment capital is gradually moving toward the sector, following a pattern similar to the earlier flow of capital into technology stocks.

Gold represents another major part of Costa’s investment thesis. He points out that government debt levels are now comparable to those seen during the World War II era, when around half of U.S. Treasury debt was backed by gold, compared with just 3% today. Global money supply continues to expand, and Costa argues that gold must eventually catch up with that growth. The case for higher gold prices is further supported, in his view, by the depletion of existing deposits, a shortage of major new discoveries, and rising demand from China.

Costa describes the current environment as a global monetary race for gold, involving both Washington and Beijing. He argues that the two powers are addressing their debt challenges in part by increasing their reserves of precious metals.

For Costa, the combination of mining and gold offers a double investment thesis: exposure to the AI revolution through the raw materials needed to build the digital economy, and exposure to a broader monetary shift through precious metals. If his thesis proves correct, current commodity valuations may be only the beginning of a much larger revaluation.
