The company Serebro Magadana (part of the Polymetal group) has launched a large-scale environmental project – the transition to semi-dry storage technology (SDS) for production waste. This solution will reduce water consumption and minimize the impact on the environment.
Omsukchanskaya gold recovery The plant (ZIF) has received permission to use PSS technology and is preparing to reach its designed capacity. Magadanmedia.ru reports this.
Construction of the PSS complex began three years ago and has become one of the largest industrial projects in the Magadan region. During this time, a filtration building, a thickener and warehouses for cake (low-moisture waste) were built. The total area of the facility exceeded 115 thousand square meters. meters.
“Ecology is a key priority for us. The new complex at the Omsukchan processing plant reduces the volume of tailings storage facilities and increases the level of environmental safety,” noted Alexander Simon, director of the Magadan branch of Polymetal.
The filtered cake is placed on special platforms with a geomembrane coating, which prevents the penetration of harmful substances into the soil and water. Additionally, a sediment drainage system has been built, which eliminates any leaks.
Now two sites for cake storage are ready, the third will be put into operation by 2026. All warehouses are located on the site of old tailings dumps, which eliminates additional land use. The total area of the three facilities will be more than 66 hectares, which is enough for 10 years of work.
The trial launch of the complex took place a year ago. The thickener reduced the pulp moisture content to 50%, and the press filters brought this figure to 20%. The first batch of cake amounted to 69 tons in just 1.5 hours.
The introduction of dry tailings technology at the Omsukchan gold processing plant is an important step in reducing the environmental load. The project demonstrates how modern solutions help combine industrial production and concern for nature.
