State exploration holding Rosgeologia and the government of the Republic of Mali have signed cooperation agreements in geology and subsoil use. The documents were signed on the sidelines of the third Russia–Africa summit. For Russia, the agreements were signed by Alexey Desyatkin, CEO of JSC Zarubezhgeologia, and for Mali by Minister of Mines Amadou Keita.
The first document provides for creating a digital geological map of the republic. This is a medium-scale space-geological map of two areas covering more than half of the country’s territory. The map will highlight areas that are prospective for mineral exploration.
The second agreement concerns the “Subsoil Use Management” geoinformation system. It is intended for recording geological data, licensing, and monitoring the use of subsoil resources. The agreement also provides for training Malian specialists to work with the new system.
According to Alexey Desyatkin, the projects are strategically important for the republic. They will not only yield new geological data but also create modern tools for resource management. This will make information about the subsurface more accessible and transparent, including for potential investors.
The cooperation turns Mali’s scattered geological materials into a digital system suitable for decision-making. For the country, it is a chance to attract capital to the mining sector; for Rosgeo, a way to consolidate its position in the African market for exploration services.
