Over the past three years, the number of resumes from women in the workforce has increased by 91% and reached 585 thousand. The main reason is acute shortage personnel in industry and construction, which forces employers to more actively attract female applicants.
The dynamics in production are especially impressive. The share of women among job applicants here has grown from 15 to 32% in just one year. The job aggregator currently has about a thousand resumes open for welders and turners, almost two thousand for geologists and assemblers, and over three thousand for machinists and surveyors. And 132 thousand Russian women apply for the position of handyman.
Overall, women make up 28% of applicants in mining, 22% in manufacturing, 19% in labor and 23% in construction. The figures confirm structural changes in the labor market, where gender stereotypes are giving way to the real need for workers.
Large companies have already launched special support programs. VGK is implementing the “Girls Rule” project, Russian Railways is implementing “Women of Russian Railways”, the Cherkizovo group is implementing “Tenderness”. Last year, 164 VGK employees were trained at the training center. This year, the company will launch AI courses for women in engineering positions.
Russia is moving in line with global trends, but ahead of the curve. In the United States, women make up 11.2% of the construction workforce, but two-thirds of them work in office jobs and only 4.3% work as skilled workers.
However, the gender pay gap remains. According to the Federation of Independent Trade Unions, female workers in mining earn 57% less than men.
Nevertheless, the trend is clear: industry is no longer an exclusively male domain. Personnel shortages and automation open doors for women in workshops and mines, and companies gain access to a new pool of qualified employees.
