St. Petersburg is preparing to host the first ever World Championships geology. The event will take place from May 17 to May 23, 2025 as part of the XI Nevsky International Environmental Congress. Will take part in the competition students and young scientists from more than 20 countries.
The championship is organized by the All-Russian Geological Institute named after. A.P. Karpinsky and the Government of St. Petersburg with the support of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Turbostroitel judo club. The status of the event emphasizes the participation of UNESCO, which confirms its importance for world science and ecology.
The grand opening will take place on May 18 at 10:00 at the address: Sredny Prospekt V.O., 74. The ceremony will be attended by:
- Pavel Khimchenko, director of the Karpinsky Institute;
- Alexey Korabelnikov, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg;
- Kirill Soloveichik, head of the Natural Resources Management Committee;
- Igor Muraev, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region;
- Mikhail Rakhlin, president of the city Judo Federation.
UNESCO representatives and delegates from CIS countries will join the event online.
Guests will see a unique performance “Our profession is geologists!”, which in a creative form will show the stages of the work of specialists – from expeditions to scientific discoveries.
The championship final and awards ceremony will take place at the Tauride Palace during the final session of the environmental congress.
The first World Geology Championship is not just a competition, but an important step in the development of international scientific cooperation. St. Petersburg once again proves that it is a center of gravity for the global community, joining forces for a sustainable future.
