The XXVI International Scientific Conference-School “Geology of Seas and Oceans” was held in Moscow on the basis of the Institute of Oceanology named after. P. P. Shirshov RAS. The forum brought together key experts from Russia and abroad in the field of marine geology, ecology and geophysics.
Over five days, scientists discussed a wide range of topics, including the marine geology of the Arctic and Antarctic. The focus was on issues related to mineral resources of the World Ocean, geoecology and modern approaches to monitoring the environment, marine geophysics and tectonics of lithospheric plates.
The conference paid special attention to support young scientists, development of international cooperation and coordination of research projects. The forum included three thematic symposia: on mineral resources of the ocean, environmental problems and new observation methods, as well as on geomorphology and the theory of lithospheric plates.
Over the 50 years of its existence, the conference has become an important scientific tradition and a place where new directions in marine and ocean research are being formed. The results of the event are new joint projects, exchange of cutting-edge results and strengthening of scientific ties in marine geology.
The conference once again confirmed the status of Moscow as an international center for the study of seas and oceans, and Russian scientists – their high competence in global studies of natural resources and ocean ecology.
The material was prepared with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Decade of Science and Technology.
