Profession geologist is becoming popular again among applicants. This is evidenced by the results of the admissions campaign to the country’s leading universities. More and more school graduates are choosing to study the depths of the Earth, expeditions and work in promising deposits

In 2025, the Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute (MGRI) fully fulfilled the recruitment plan for budget places. At the same time, the number of places increased by 30% compared to last year. This indicates a growing interest in geological specialties.

The average USE score of applicants has increased significantly. The most noticeable progress is observed in the following areas:

  • Mining – growth by 15%,
  • Construction – +11%,
  • Technosphere safety – +9%.

Traditionally, high competition remains in specialties related to practical work:

  • Applied Geology
  • Oil and gas business
  • Technology of artistic processing of materials

These professions allow you to immediately apply knowledge in practice – on expeditions, in fields and in production.

The Stary Oskol branch of MGRI also showed excellent results:

  • the average Unified State Examination score increased by 9%,
  • the number of applications increased 1.5 times.

Statistics from the 2025 admissions campaign confirm that geology is back on trend. Young people choose professions related to real work, promising projects and the development of the country’s mineral resource base. In the coming years, these specialists will play a key role in providing Russia with natural resources.
