A new kimberlite pipe was discovered in the Alakit-Markhinsky kimberlite field, one of the richest diamond-bearing areas in the country. This discovery has significant scientific and economic value, since such structures are potential sources diamonds.
The pipe was hidden under a 70-meter layer of sediment at the bottom of Lake Mutnoye, which made it difficult to detect using traditional methods.
To identify it, modern techniques were used, including analysis of tectonic structures, geophysical research and search for indicator minerals.
Implications for science and industry:
- The discovery confirmed the effectiveness of innovative approaches in geological exploration.
- It is emphasized that even in well-studied regions, unknown deposits may remain, which opens up new prospects for the search for minerals.
This achievement not only expands knowledge of the geology of Yakutia, but may also contribute to the further development of the diamond mining industry in the region.
The material was prepared with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Decade of Science and Technology.
