From October 2025, the new state standard GOST R 72228-2025 will come into force in Russia. It will establish uniform technical requirements for drilling equipment used in the mining industry. This important change is aimed at improving the quality and safety of exploration drilling equipment.

The new GOST was developed with the active participation of specialists from Drilling Equipment Plant JSC. The document concerns installations for rotary drilling of exploration wells from the surface. The equipment will have to meet the standard when operating in a wide temperature range – from minus 40 to plus 40 degrees Celsius.

According to chief designer Egor Tulibaev, such standardization is a long-awaited and necessary solution for the industry. Still on deposits Drilling rigs from different manufacturers were used with different levels of equipment, automation and, critically, quality. Much of the equipment on the market has low reliability. The introduction of GOST is designed to protect consumers, encourage manufacturers to produce more advanced equipment and take the industry to a new level.

Work on the standard has been carried out by plant specialists since last year. According to the new requirements, drilling rigs will be classified according to a number of key parameters. Among them are the degree of automation, characteristics of components, indicators of purpose, reliability and labeling. The document pays special attention to safety standards during equipment operation and environmental protection.

The introduction of a unified GOST for drilling rigs is only the first step in the standardization program. Now experts are already working on the next document to standardize SSC pipes. In the future, it is planned to extend this experience to underground drilling equipment, which will systematically improve the quality of all mining equipment in the country.
