The new Russian technology AXIONIT can significantly reduce the cost of lithium production. Its key advantage is the elimination of the energy-intensive re-deposition step, making the process both simpler and more economical.

Maxim Irishkin, director of business development at Axion – Rare and Precious, spoke about the promising development metals” Speaking at the Lithium 2025 forum, he noted that traditional methods require repeated precipitation with the addition of CO2. AXIONIT technology, based on sorption extraction, makes this step unnecessary. This directly affects the reduction of both capital investments and operating expenses.

It is important that the technology has already proven its effectiveness in real conditions. Successful tests carried out on deposits in Siberia, European Russia and Latin America. At the same time, the entire technological chain was created and localized in Russia – over 90% of the equipment is produced by domestic enterprises.

Another significant advantage is the high quality of the product from the very beginning. The technology makes it possible to obtain battery-quality lithium carbonate after the first deposition, without the need to repeat it. This not only simplifies the entire cycle, but also speeds up access to the market for finished products.

The company is currently actively working to scale its solution. It is planned to introduce industrial plants, the capacity of which can reach 1,500 tons of lithium carbonate per year. In parallel, developments are underway to adapt the technology to extract other valuable elements, such as boron, strontium and iodine.

The introduction of AXIONIT technology opens up new opportunities for the Russian metallurgical industry, making lithium mining more profitable and independent of foreign components.

The material was prepared with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Decade of Science and Technology.
