Bolivia continues to strengthen its position in the global lithium market. According to the latest data, proven reserves This critical metal in the country reached 23 million tons – 2 million tons more than previously estimated. This statement was made by Bolivian President Luis Alberto Arce Catacora. 

To develop the lithium industry, Bolivia is actively attracting foreign partners. The state-owned YLB (Bolivian Lithium Deposits) signed agreements with Chinese corporations and the Russian Rosatom for a total of $2.8 billion. These projects will not only increase prey but also to create processing industries. 

  • The Catl Brunp & Cmoc (CBC) consortium will build two lithium plants using direct extraction (EDL) technology in the Uyuni and Coipasa salt flats. 
  • Citic Guoan Group will invest $857 million to set up a battery plant and electric vehicle assembly plant. 
  • Rosatom’s subsidiary Uranium One Group is implementing a project to produce lithium carbonate. The capacity of the complex will be 25 thousand tons per year with the possibility of expansion. Investments are estimated at $600 million. 

Lithium – a key component for electric vehicle batteries and renewable energy. Increased production in Bolivia could impact global supply chains. The participation of players such as China and Russia underscores the strategic importance of the region.

  • Development of high-tech industries. 
  • Strengthening the economy through exports. 

The active development of the lithium industry places Bolivia among the key players in the energy transition market. Cooperation with international companies will speed up the implementation of projects and increase the country’s competitiveness. 

Bolivia has confirmed its status as one of the world’s main lithium suppliers. Thanks to new investments and technologies, the country can significantly increase the extraction and processing of this strategic metal. This opens up prospects not only for Bolivia, but also for the global clean energy market.
