The Polymetal company, together with the Irkutsk National Research Technical University (IRNTU), opened an educational and research laboratory on the digitalization of mining operations. The new center will become a platform for training specialists in the field of geographic information technologies.
The grand opening of a teaching and research laboratory on the digitalization of mining operations took place at the Irkutsk National Research Technical University (IRNTU). The project was implemented with the support of the Polymetal company as part of the Priority 2030 program. The laboratory is located in auditorium E-302 and is equipped with modern equipment.
The opening ceremony was attended by INRTU Rector Mikhail Kornyakov, Director of the Institute of Subsoil Use Alexey Shevchenko and Polymetal HR Director Tatyana Zheltovskaya. Mikhail Kornyakov noted the importance of cooperation with the company for the development of educational infrastructure and presented Tatyana Zheltovskaya with a letter of gratitude.
Cooperation between INRTU and Polymetal began in 2019. During this time, more than 40 students were trained in GIS technologies and successfully applied their knowledge in practice. As part of the partnership, the company also helped update the Zh-211 audience.
Tatyana Zheltovskaya emphasized that INRTU is a leader in training engineers for the mining industry. She expressed confidence that the new laboratory will become a center of attraction for students interested in mining.
In honor of the 95th anniversary of INRTU, Polymetal donated a monetary certificate to the university for the development of educational programs. The company’s financing made it possible not only to renovate the auditorium, but also to equip it with modern computers and design solutions in the company’s signature colors – gray and orange.
The updated laboratory will become a platform for studying geographic information technologies and conducting research. On the opening day, Polymetal project manager Ivan Martynov conducted a master class on planning mining operations.
The opening of the laboratory is an important step in the development of the educational environment of INRTU and the training of specialists for the mining industry. Cooperation between the university and Polymetal continues to strengthen, opening up new opportunities for students and teachers.
