Uzbekistan may begin mining gold and copper in Pakistan. Negotiations on this took place in Islamabad during a meeting between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the leadership of a large Pakistani business conglomerate.
The key topic was geological exploration and the possible involvement of Uzbek specialists in the development of local subsoil. It’s about working together in promising areas, where reserves of gold, copper and critical minerals are concentrated.
For Uzbekistan, this is an opportunity to expand foreign economic activity and export its own technologies in the field of geology. The country not only supplies raw materials, but also offers expertise in exploration and evaluation of deposits.
Pakistan, in turn, has large resources of non-ferrous and precious metals. The parties paid special attention to the Reko Dik field in the province of Balochistan. This site is considered one of the largest in the world in terms of copper and gold reserves.
Joint projects may include conducting surveys, assessing reserves and preparing sites for industrial development. This format of cooperation allows Pakistan to receive technological support, and Uzbekistan – access to new resource assets.
The discussion showed that geological exploration is becoming a new area of partnership between countries and can go beyond traditional trade.
