In the Arkhangelsk region they plan to conduct large geological exploration work to assess diamond potential of the region. This important event was announced at the II International Geological Festival.
The head of the AGD Diamonds company, Mikhail Bakov, presented a comprehensive research program. The project is being implemented within the framework of a public-private partnership with Rosnedra. The work will take place on Krasnoborskaya Square, which occupies eight thousand square kilometers in four municipal districts.
The key partner was the Karpinsky All-Russian Research Geological Institute. Such a union of science and production will provide an integrated approach to the study of the region’s mineral resource base. The preparatory stage has already been completed: project documentation is ready and field research.
Geologists will conduct surveys, soil testing, airborne geophysical surveys and laboratory analyses. The decision to search is based on an analysis of data from past years and finds of single diamonds and their companions. These signs indicate the possibility of discovering primary deposits in the area.
The field stage of work is planned to be completed by 2027, and the final report will be prepared by mid-2028. The result will be a forecast and search model that will determine further directions for studying the diamond potential of the southern regions of the Arkhangelsk region. This will open up new prospects for the development of the mineral resources complex of the entire region.
The material was prepared with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Decade of Science and Technology.
