The largest in the world airborne geophysical Xcalibur Smart Mapping company announced support for the presidential initiative of Kazakhstan to modernize the country’s geological maps. We are talking about the creation of a National Airborne Geophysical Mapping Program, which was announced by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his annual message in early September. The head of state emphasized that the large-scale surveys carried out earlier were “completely outdated” and ordered the development of modern maps subsoil using digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
At the Council of Domestic Entrepreneurs under the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, representatives of Xcalibur emphasized the importance of modern airborne geophysical methods for attracting investment in geological exploration. The company said that without a highly accurate database based on AI, the country may lose interest from global investors.
Xcalibur is already operating in Kazakhstan: in 2025, the company completed several large projects for international mining companies using the new generation of lightweight and high-precision gravimeters (iCORUS-iX). By the end of the year, it is planned to launch a new project using artificial intelligence to interpret airborne geophysical data – one of the first such cases in the region.
The company also implements national airborne geophysical programs in Brazil, Mongolia, Zambia and Australia, and has previously completed large-scale work in Saudi Arabia and Angola.
The national airborne geophysical mapping program announced by President Tokayev and the launch of which was confirmed by the Prime Minister could open up new opportunities for Xcalibur’s participation. Although specific tenders have not yet been announced, the vector is already obvious: the country is aimed at digital transformation of geological exploration, and Xcalibur is one of the companies that have publicly expressed their willingness to contribute to this process.
