Russian mining and mineral exploration companies have opened seasonal recruitment for rotational jobs. The highest rates are offered to underground mining supervisors and drilling and blasting engineers, with pay of up to RUB 600,000–700,000 per rotation. Geologists and mine surveyors can earn RUB 180,000 to 396,000 per month. Employers cover travel, accommodation, and meals.
The highest earnings are available for underground operations. A mining supervisor at the Badran deposit in Yakutia’s Oymyakonsky Ulus can earn RUB 700,000 for a 60-shift rotation. The schedule is two months on and two months off, with the company also paying for the inter-shift rest period. A diploma in underground mining and a unified blaster’s certificate are required.
A drilling and blasting engineer at the Chernogorsk Mining and Processing Plant in Norilsk can earn RUB 600,000 for a 45-shift rotation. Responsibilities include designing large-scale blasting operations, supervising their execution, and ensuring safety. In addition to specialized education, candidates need a unified blaster’s certificate and experience preparing technical documentation.
Geologists have two notable options. A gold-mining crew working on alluvial gold in Sutara village, Jewish Autonomous Region, offers up to RUB 350,000 net for rotations of 60 to 120 shifts. Candidates need at least two years of experience specifically in alluvial gold mining, knowledge of methods developed by TSNIGRI, and the ability to work with a gold pan. Another option is a district geologist at an iron ore operation in Olekma, Amur Region, with pay of RUB 180,000 for a 30-shift rotation. Here, one year of experience and secondary or higher specialized education are sufficient.
A mine surveyor working in open-pit operations in Norilsk is offered RUB 264,000 to 396,000 per month, depending on the length of the rotation. Requirements include knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and experience with GNSS equipment and electronic total stations.
Most vacancies offer similar employment conditions. These include official employment under the Russian Labor Code or a civil-law contract, twice-monthly salary payments, accommodation in serviced dormitories, three meals a day at the company’s expense, reimbursement of travel costs, and payment for required medical clearances. Some positions also offer an employee referral program with a cash bonus.
The mining industry remains one of the highest-paying segments of the labor market for specialists with relevant technical qualifications. Rotational schedules and harsh working conditions are offset by incomes well above the national average. For experienced geologists, mine surveyors, and mining engineers, a seasonal rotation can provide earnings comparable to a full year’s income from an office-based job.
