Geomechanics is no longer a niche discipline known only to specialists. PRIN University has launched a video podcast series in which industry experts explain in accessible language why businesses need geomechanics specialists, what their work involves, and why Russian geomechanics professionals are valued internationally. Three episodes are already available on major platforms.
The project is titled “Geomechanics: Theory and Practice. Business Resilience.” The series is hosted by Alexander Bragin, Development Director at PRIN JSC. The studio features two experienced specialists: Sergey Kuzmin, a full member of the Academy of Mining Sciences and a member of the international ISRM community, and Alexey Medvedev, co-founder of GEOSUPPORT.
The first episode covers the fundamentals: who a geomechanics specialist is, what role they play at a mining company, and what it takes to enter the profession. It serves as an introduction for students and professionals considering a career in the field.
The second episode focuses on the tools used by modern geomechanics teams, including geotechnical radar systems and the evolution of computer modeling. The experts explain how these technologies support strategic decisions throughout the lifecycle of a mining project, from exploration and development to mine closure.
The final episode turns to practical implementation. It explores how to build a geomechanics department within a mining company, the challenges young specialists face, and why graduates of Russian geomechanics programs continue to find strong demand for their skills on international markets.
The full series is available on the PRIN University platform, as well as VK Video and Rutube. All three episodes are freely available.
Geomechanics plays a central role in both the safety and economics of mining projects. PRIN University’s new podcast series helps bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world practice, making a complex technical discipline accessible to a broader audience.
