A large-scale deposit of rare earth metals has been discovered in Kazakhstan. Reserves are estimated at one million tons, which opens up new prospects for the industry.
Geologists from the Karaganda region made an important discovery. During prospecting work at the Kuyrektykol site, they identified large deposits of rare earth metals. According to preliminary estimates, their volume reaches a million tons.
The deposit is located 300 km from Astana, in the Karkaraly region. The site is an ancient volcanic zone where deposits were formed due to magmatic processes.
The most promising zones turned out to be Irgiz and Dos 2. Here the concentration of rare earth elements exceeds 0.1%, and in some samples reaches 0.25%. The first calculations showed that the reserves in the Irgiz area alone amount to about 800 thousand tons.
In addition, geologists have identified a new promising zone – Zhana Kazakhstan. Its predicted resources are estimated at 20 million tons with a rare earth element content of about 700 g/t.
This discovery is of strategic importance for Kazakhstan. The unique type of deposit can become the basis for the development of new industrial directions.
