Large-scale reclamation is underway at the site of the legendary Korkinsky coal mine in the Chelyabinsk region. A unique project will transform a huge quarry into a picturesque lake, solving serious environmental problems and creating a new recreation area for residents of the region.
The deepest quarry in Eurasia, whose history began in 1936, has ended its industrial era. After the exhaustion of coal reserves, the giant mine became a source of environmental disaster. Acrid smoke from underground fires and soil sliding created a real threat to nearby settlements.
Since 2017 specialists Promrekultivatsiya companies began eliminating the accumulated damage. The first positive results are already visible: it has been possible to stop harmful emissions into the atmosphere, and the slopes of the quarry are gradually becoming covered with green vegetation.
Currently, the main stage of transformation is being implemented – filling the quarry bowl with water and special materials. This complex engineering process requires precise calculations and constant monitoring. The uniqueness of the project lies in its comprehensive approach to solving environmental problems.
In 15-20 years, a full-fledged lake with clean water will appear on the site of the industrial giant. The project provides for the creation of a comfortable infrastructure for recreation on its banks. This transformation will not only improve the environmental situation, but will also give the region a new tourist attraction.
Work on the reclamation of the Korkinsky open-pit mine demonstrates a successful example of the restoration of nature after industrial use. The project proves that even the most complex environmental problems can be solved with benefit for future generations. The creation of the lake will become a symbol of a reasonable approach to environmental management in the Chelyabinsk region.
