Specialists of the Siberian Federal university presented innovative sorbents for the extraction of rare and rare earth metals. The new development does not require the use of expensive reagents, since it is produced from available raw materials and wood waste. This significantly reduces the cost of the process and reduces the burden on the environment.
The key advantage of the technology is its readiness to scale quickly. The formulation is based on simple matrices and common chemical components. Implementation of these solutions in production does not require lengthy and expensive personnel training, which opens a quick path to practical application.
Scientists offer two types of materials. The first one is based on inorganic oxides that have been modified with polyamines. Such compositions have proven themselves well in the fields of water purification and disinfection. The second type of sorbent is the result of chemical activation of ordinary sawdust. In this way, researchers were able to turn natural waste into a highly effective product for industry.
The proposed approach provides a competitive sorption capacity. At the same time, the costs of producing the materials themselves remain low. This combination of efficiency and cost-effectiveness makes the development of Krasnoyarsk scientists extremely attractive for business.
Currently university is already negotiating with large mining and processing plants in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Yakutia on the supply of pilot batches of sorbents. The first industrial contracts are planned to be signed before the end of this year, which will open a new page in the domestic production of strategically important resources.
The material was prepared with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Decade of Science and Technology.
