An Interregional Engineering Development Center, unique for Russia, will begin operating in Kuzbass. His key specialization will be comprehensive research in the promising field of coal chemistry. A new research site will be located on the basis of the Kuzbass State Technical University university.
Funding for the project has already been secured. The regional government announced the allocation of a federal grant in the amount of 400 million rubles. These funds were received as a result of a competition held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The winner was a consortium that united KuzSTU, the Federal Research Center for Coal and Coal Chemistry SB RAS, Donbass State Technical University university, as well as the scientific and educational center “Kuzbass – Donbass”.
According to Kuzbass Governor Ilya Seredyuk, the creation of the center is aimed at diversifying the economy of the coal regions. This is an important step to reduce dependence on imported technologies and develop our own innovative production facilities.
The center’s specialists face large-scale tasks. The focus of research is the development and organization of production of synthetic fuel, hydrogen, and carbon fibers for the needs of the aviation and space industries. In addition, it is planned to create new composite materials and polymers.
It is expected that the introduction of the developed technologies into industry will bring significant economic benefits. It is predicted that by 2030 it will be at least 800 million rubles. This will strengthen the region’s position as a leading scientific and industrial hub in the field of advanced coal processing.
