The State Duma Committee on Ecology proposed using the data space filming as evidence in cases of environmental violations. This applies to both illegal logging and oil spills. If the initiative is adopted, it will significantly speed up the process of identifying and punishing violators.

Now, to control the environmental situation, Rosprirodnadzor spends huge amounts of money on aerial monitoring – about 183 million rubles per year. Satellite technologies make it possible to cover the same territories in a matter of hours, and with high accuracy. The new approach will not only save budget funds, but will also ensure prompt receipt of data.

One of the main questions is how to avoid fake photos. The developers of the initiative recognize that the system must be protected from possible manipulation. To achieve this, it is planned to create a strict procedure for the examination of space data, which will exclude the use of false evidence in court.

In the coming months, deputies will prepare amendments that will determine the rules for the use of satellite images in judicial practice. This will open up new opportunities to combat environmental crimes:

  • Accurately record the coordinates of violations.
  • Monitor changes in near real time.
  • Simplify the procedure for bringing perpetrators to justice.

The adoption of this initiative will be an important step in protecting the environment. Usage modern technologies will allow for faster identification of violations and more efficient use of government resources. It remains to wait for the final decision of the State Duma.
