The Republic of Khakassia is launching a large-scale economic project – the Angara-Yenisei rare earth cluster. This initiative, supported at the federal level, is designed to radically change the structure of the regional economy, shifting the focus from the extraction of raw materials to the production of high-tech products.

According to the head of Khakassia Valentin Konovalov, the cluster will become a key driver of the republic’s development. The main goal is not just to increase production volumes, but to create a full cycle of deep processing of rare earth minerals metals right in the region. This approach will make it possible to produce products with high added value, which are in demand in the electronics, mechanical engineering and defense industries.

The project corresponds to the all-Russian development strategy of the Angara-Yenisei macroregion and the course that Khakassia took several years ago. It is aimed at reducing the economy’s dependence on the export of unprocessed raw materials and strengthening the position of the manufacturing sector.

The implementation of the cluster will bring not only industrial growth to Khakassia. Residents of the region will experience direct social support: the creation of thousands of new highly qualified jobs, budget growth, and, as a result, financing of social programs. To provide the project with infrastructure and personnel, the authorities are even considering the possibility of building a new satellite city near Sayanogorsk.

The first phase of the project is planned to be completed in 2027, when initial production facilities for processing critical metals will be launched. In the future, the Angara-Yenisei cluster can turn into one of the leading technological centers in Siberia, demonstrating a model of the economy of the future, knowledge-based technologies and the full production cycle.

This step means that Khakassia is confidently moving along the path of innovative transformation, laying a solid foundation for the sustainable development and well-being of its residents.
